There will be no Virgin media complaints with this news! If you’re a Virgin customer you’re sure to be thrilled at the recent completion of their doubling of broadband speeds- but the premise alone doesn’t stand for much, does it? Where, when how- and how much, of course- are very important questions.
So, should I contact Virgin Media to move over my account?
The plan began by migrating their existing customers first. They sold the idea that they would double the broadband speeds for its existing customers, taking them to speedy 120Mb connections. It’s clear that this didn’t apply to all customers, however, as the speeds on the 20 Mb connections were trebled rather than doubled. It does appear that the ten and 30Mb connections were doubled. 50 Mb connections were pushed all the way to 120Mb as promised- a massive increase of 140%. On the other hand, the 100Mb connections were only improved to 120Mbs. If you’re an existing customer on a 100Mb connection, the paltry 20% increase may have seemed like you’re being cheated- especially given the increase for the 50Mb customers. visit this link for more detailed information.

Were they cheating 100Mb customers?
Before you reach out to Virgin Media complaints, you’ll want to know that you’ll have received a price drop to bring you in line with the upgrade on the previously 50Mb package, so you won’t be missing out at all. The aim all around was to bring the Virgin bundles up as the fastest widely available connections in the country. This is bigger news than you may think- imagine being able to pull down a whole music album in 5 seconds?
Compare it to the average national speed of 8Mb, where an equivalent download would take a minute, and film downloads can take up to twenty instead of the five the new speed promises. Of course, back in the day of dial-up, one track from that album would have taken hours!
How much will this cost?
The good news is that, despite the tremendous sum being touted as necessary to achieve the infrastructure upgrade to achieve these speeds, if you’re an existing Virgin Media customer you needn’t have worried about cost increases- the speed will increase without the plans changing. Remember, if you’re currently on a 100Mb plan, you’ll actually be receiving a price drop. As per Virgin Media customer service, all the packages are unlimited as well- provided you do not breach the terms of your agreement with the service provider. Upload speed, traffic management, etc. were all upgraded in line with the projected increase as well.
Upgrades are already underway, with most Virgin Media customers receiving their upgrades from early 2014 onwards. Customers were upgraded without concern to the area, rather by free telephone exchanges already in a state to be upgraded. If you’re thinking of making the switch, older routers and equipment may need to be upgraded. Existing customers were provided with a modem that was suitable as part of their deal.
If doubled broadband speeds way beyond the national average sound like a great idea to you, be sure to use the Virgin Media telephone number to switch your plan and start speeding up today.
